The father of Rosenborg’s talented midfielder Sverre Nypan has confirmed that his son will be staying in the Norwegian top flight despite strong interest from Arsenal.
Arsenal and Manchester City were both linked with the 18-year-old wonderkid, but negotiations were led by Girona, Manchester City’s sister club in Spain.
Aston Villa also joined the race for Nypan, but the player has made the decision to continue with Rosenborg. His father, Arne, explained the reasoning in an interview with Norwegian outlet Adresseavisen.
Arne Nypan stated, “The most important thing for us is to have confirmation of significant interest from top clubs with a good plan for his development. Sverre is focused on the long-term, and we see staying at RBK until the summer as an advantage.”
Nypan, the youngest player to debut for Rosenborg, has attracted attention for his versatility and has been compared to Martin Odegaard. He has excelled in various midfield roles over his 60 senior appearances.
Despite interest from top clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and PSG, Nypan was open to a move abroad in January, with Rosenborg valuing him at £11m.
The young midfielder will now remain in the Eliteserien until the summer, which aligns with the end of the 2024/25 season in major European leagues.
Negotiations may continue, as Nypan’s father mentioned, “We may still choose a club before the summer window officially opens.”
