Aaron Boone has been confirmed to continue as the manager of the New York Yankees, as the team announced on Friday that they have exercised their club option on his contract for 2025.
“I am honored to have been given the opportunity to lead this team. It is a privilege that I do not take lightly,” Boone stated. “Every day, I am surrounded by dedicated and talented players, coaches, and staff members. From the Steinbrenner family down, there is a shared commitment to excellence within this organization. I am eager to begin preparing for spring training in Tampa and work towards returning the Yankees to the postseason for a chance at a World Championship.”
The Yankees had until Saturday, Nov. 9, to exercise the option in Boone’s contract, following the conclusion of the World Series. At the MLB general manager meetings in San Antonio this week, Yankees GM Brian Cashman indicated that he was not considering a change for the upcoming 2025 season.
Despite having one of the highest payrolls in the league, the Yankees have not secured a World Series title under Boone’s leadership. Critics have questioned whether Cashman should have considered a managerial change, despite Boone’s impressive regular-season record, division titles, and playoff appearances.
Following a flawed World Series performance against the Dodgers in 2024, Cashman refrained from criticizing Boone’s decisions, acknowledging the challenges of the manager’s role.
“The manager’s role is incredibly challenging, and second-guessing is inevitable. Boone is a highly skilled manager, and we are fortunate to have him,” Cashman commented.
Now that Boone’s return is confirmed, Cashman’s focus shifts to securing the services of free agent slugger Juan Soto, a top target in this winter’s market.
