More than a year has passed since Alexander Volkanovski last fought…
In a moment of reflection, I pondered the longevity of my career in this sport and wondered about life after fighting. The pressure to perform well and continue making money was always on my mind as a champion. However, after experiencing two consecutive knockouts, I made the decision to take a much-needed break. This break allowed me to focus on myself and my passion for cooking, rather than constantly training with no clear goal in sight.
My dedication to MMA has undeniably paid off, with many considering me one of the best featherweight fighters in UFC history. The biggest change during my time off was shifting the focus from my MMA schedule dictating my life to prioritizing my own needs.
The growth and self-discovery I experienced during this break were invaluable. I now understand the sacrifices required to be an elite fighter, but I also know that I will be okay after my fighting career ends. The time off allowed me to truly enjoy life and contemplate my return to the octagon.
Despite being counted out as the underdog in my recent losses, I am determined to prove my worth in the upcoming matchup. I am confident that I can change people’s perceptions and show that I still have what it takes to compete at the highest level. The doubts and skepticism only fuel my desire to succeed and showcase my skills once again.
As I prepare for the Lopes fight, I am focused on reminding the world of my place among the featherweight greats. I am not finished yet, and I intend to silence the doubters with a strong performance in April. following sentence:
