Andre Arlovski is not hanging up his gloves just yet.
Arlovski recently fought in UFC 303, marking his final appearance in the promotion. Despite losing a split decision to Martin Buday, Arlovski’s legacy in the UFC is solidified with 42 fights, second only to Jim Miller. The former heavyweight champion holds various records in the heavyweight division, including fight time, significant strikes, and more. Arlovski knew that UFC 303 would be his last fight with the promotion.
In an interview with The MMA Hour, Arlovski shared, “I knew it would be my last fight. UFC proposed to do something, but I declined because my chapter in the UFC has come to a close. However, my MMA career continues. That’s why I chose to do nothing. And yes, it was my last fight in the UFC.”
Arlovski, who made his UFC debut at UFC 28 in 2000, was the last active UFC fighter from the era before Zuffa LLC’s acquisition in 2001. After spending the majority of the past 24 years under the UFC banner, Arlovski’s departure from the promotion marks the end of an era. Despite the emotional significance of UFC 303, Arlovski managed to keep his composure.
Reflecting on his departure, Arlovski admitted, “I thought I was going to be emotional, but today I realize that life goes on. While my time with the UFC is over, my fighting career is not. I am grateful for my time with the UFC, but I am ready for the next chapter.”
Following his final UFC fight, Arlovski received a special gift from First Round Management, which brought tears to his eyes. Looking ahead, Arlovski is determined to continue fighting for a few more years and aims to break records set by legendary fighters like Bernard Hopkins.
As Arlovski plans his future in the sport, he remains open to the possibility of returning to the UFC one day. While his UFC journey may have come to an end, Arlovski’s fighting spirit remains unwavering.
Regardless of what lies ahead, Arlovski is proud of his UFC career and the legacy he has built over the years. From his humble beginnings to becoming a seasoned veteran, Arlovski’s journey in the UFC is truly remarkable.
Arlovski concludes his UFC career with a record of 23-18 and one no-contest.
