Ange Postecoglou has acknowledged that his Tottenham Hotspur squad is struggling to cope with their current poor form.
Following Wednesday’s controversial 2-1 loss to Arsenal, Tottenham has now suffered 11 defeats in just 21 Premier League matches this season, matching their previous unwanted records from past campaigns.
The team currently sits in 13th place, only eight points above the relegation zone, with just two wins in their last 11 games.
“This level of performance is unacceptable for all of us at the club. Losing so many games in a single season is not something we can tolerate,” Postecoglou stated post-match.
Reflecting on the match, he added, “Our first half was far too passive, allowing Arsenal to dominate. We were disappointing both defensively and offensively, failing to control the tempo of the game. Although our second half performance improved slightly, it was still far from satisfactory.”
“This is not the style of play I expect from my team. Allowing Arsenal to dictate the game by sitting back is not our identity.”
Postecoglou emphasized the need for hard work and determination to turn around their season, especially with tough fixtures ahead. He acknowledged the need for a significant change in their league performances.
“We must return to our aggressive style of play, both defensively and offensively. Being passive like we were tonight is not acceptable. We need to show our true identity on the pitch.”
Upcoming matches against Everton, Leicester City, Brentford, Manchester United, and Manchester City will test Tottenham’s ability to bounce back from their current slump.
