Mike Trout is set to kick off a rehab stint on Tuesday, nearly three months post his surgery for a torn meniscus in his left knee.
As per MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger, Trout will undergo live pitching practice this weekend at the Angels’ Spring Training complex in Arizona before heading to Triple-A Salt Lake.
The Salt Lake Bees are scheduled for a six-game homestand starting Tuesday, and if all progresses smoothly, Trout could rejoin the Angels for their series against the Oakland A’s starting Thursday.
Trout has been absent from the Angels lineup since April 29 and opted for surgery instead of playing through the injury, which would have limited him to a designated hitter role due to the pain.
At the time of his surgery announcement in late April, the three-time AL MVP was tied for the MLB lead in home runs with 10 and batting .220/.325/.541.
Aside from his recovery efforts, Trout has been keeping busy off the field. He and his wife welcomed their second child in late June, and the big-time weather enthusiast also appeared in a promotional video for the newly released “Twisters” movie.
This won’t be Trout’s first stint in Salt Lake. He played 20 games with the Bees in 2012, boasting a .403 average with a home run and 13 RBIs before his MLB debut.
