Arsenal make shockingly low bid for goalkeeper target

Arsenal’s initial bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Dan Bentley has been turned down, according to reports.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Arsenal had identified Bentley as a potential target for the summer transfer window due to uncertainty surrounding current backup goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s future.

According to The Athletic, Wolves swiftly rejected Arsenal’s formal offer for Bentley shortly after it was submitted.

While Wolves are reportedly open to selling Bentley, they are looking for an offer that would allow them to reinvest in their squad. Arsenal’s bid is said to fall well below Wolves’ valuation.

The Evening Standard reported that Arsenal’s bid was only £50,000.

Reports suggest that Arsenal view 30-year-old Bentley as a third-choice goalkeeper option rather than a direct replacement for Ramsdale.

Ramsdale is anticipated to assess his future this summer after returning from Euro 2024 with England, having lost his spot in the Arsenal team to David Raya, who recently made his loan move from Brentford permanent.

Arsenal are reportedly exploring several goalkeeper options in case Ramsdale departs, with Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin frequently mentioned as a potential choice.

According to AS, Espanyol’s Joan Garcia is another goalkeeper under consideration, with his €25m (£21.1m) release clause attracting interest from Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.

Bentley would likely be a more affordable option as he is entering the final year of his contract at Molineux, although reports suggest there is a two-year extension clause in his current deal with Wolves.
