During a UEFA Champions League match between Atalanta and Club Brugge, Atalanta captain Rafael Tolói found himself in a rather embarrassing situation. With Brugge already on their way to a 5-2 aggregate win over Atalanta, tensions were running high.
In the 87th minute, Tolói was on the receiving end of some rough play from Brugge’s Maxim De Cuyper. Tolói’s response, however, was far from graceful. After attempting to spike De Cuyper in the head with the ball, Tolói lost his grip and ended up falling flat on his face.
Despite De Cuyper walking away, Tolói charged at him and forcefully brought him to the ground, resulting in a red card for the Atalanta captain. The match concluded shortly after, with Brugge securing a spot in the Round of 16.
Brugge, the reigning champions of the Belgian Pro League, will now prepare to face either Lille or Aston Villa in the next round, with potential matchups against Liverpool or Barcelona in the quarterfinals.
