In contrast to the Premier League, many of the top teams in the other major European football leagues did not play on Sunday.

Nevertheless, there were several exciting matches taking place across the continent that had a significant impact on the race for Champions League qualification.

Let’s take a look at some of the standout games:

Sevilla 1-2 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Sevilla thanks to Pablo Barrios’ late winner. The result narrowed the gap between Atletico and Barcelona and Real Madrid in the LaLiga title race.

Despite falling behind early on, Atletico fought back with Julian Alvarez equalizing from the penalty spot before Barrios sealed the win with a well-taken finish.

Atletico’s win puts them within striking distance of the top two teams in the league.

In another LaLiga match, Villarreal held Athletic Bilbao to a goalless draw, with Villarreal moving into fifth place in the league standings.

Roma 1-1 Juventus

Juventus missed an opportunity to secure a crucial win in the Serie A race for Champions League qualification as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Roma.

Manuel Locatelli gave Juve the lead, but Roma equalized through Eldor Shomurodov in the second half.

Juventus now find themselves in fifth place in the Serie A standings, level on points with fourth-placed Bologna.

Elsewhere in Serie A, Lazio defeated Atalanta 1-0, closing the gap on the top teams in the league.

Marseille 3-2 Toulouse

Marseille overcame off-field turmoil to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Toulouse in Ligue 1.

Goals from Gabriel Suazo, Mason Greenwood, and Adrien Rabiot sealed the win for Marseille, who are now in second place in the league standings.

In the Bundesliga, St. Pauli and Borussia Monchengladbach played out a 1-1 draw, with Gladbach missing a chance to climb the table in the race for Champions League football.

Overall, Sunday’s matches across Europe provided plenty of drama and excitement as teams jostle for positions in their respective leagues.
