RB Leipzig has turned down an offer from Barcelona that falls short of their €60m (£51m) valuation of Euro 2024 champion Dani Olmo, as per reports in Germany.
Despite only becoming a starter in the latter stages of the competition due to Pedri’s injury, Olmo proved to be a crucial player for Spain in their Euro 2024 victory earlier this summer. The attacking midfielder scored three goals and provided two assists for his country, including the winner in the semi-final against favorites France in Munich.
Olmo has been linked with a move away from RB Leipzig, with Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich all showing interest in signing him.
However, Olmo’s suitors missed the deadline to activate the €60m release clause in his RB Leipzig contract, which expired on July 20.
Reports indicated that Barcelona had made a verbal offer for Olmo in early July, and they believe that the player prefers to join them over other interested clubs. Sky Germany reported that an offer has now been officially made and rejected by Leipzig.
The bid was reportedly well below Leipzig’s expectations, with Spanish media suggesting that it included €40m in guaranteed payments plus potential performance-related add-ons totaling up to €20m.
The initial €40m would be paid in installments starting from January 2025, meaning Leipzig would receive no compensation during the player’s first six months in Catalonia. The add-ons would be triggered in two installments, with €10m paid if Barcelona won two La Liga titles and another €10m if they won two UEFA Champions Leagues.
Meanwhile, reports from France suggest that Manchester City has also made an initial move for Olmo. However, the player, whose representatives have met with Barcelona to discuss terms for a six-year contract, reportedly prefers to return to Spain.
Olmo had previously spent time in Barcelona’s La Masia academy before leaving to join Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16.
