The Arsenal Women’s Champions League group stage journey kicks off on Wednesday night with a clash against Bayern Munich, the champions of Frauen-Bundesliga, in Germany.
After finishing third in the Women’s Super League last season, Arsenal had to go through a tough qualifying process to secure a spot in the group stage. They defeated Rangers and Rosenborg in the first round of qualifying and then overcame Hacken with a 4-0 win in the second leg after trailing in the first leg.
Arsenal, led by Jonas Eidevall, find themselves in Group C alongside Bayern, Juventus, and Valerenga. Despite a recent draw against Everton in the WSL, they are gearing up for the challenging opener against Bayern.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, have been dominant in the Frauen-Bundesliga with five wins in five matches, aiming for their third consecutive league title. They have established themselves as the top team in Germany after Wolfsburg’s reign.
As one of the automatic qualifiers for the WUCL group stages due to their title triumph last season, Bayern are set to face Arsenal in their opening match.
Here’s 90min’s preview of the showdown in Munich.
