Patrick Cantlay stood out as the calm presence amidst the flashy lights and high energy of the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on Tuesday night. Despite not quite fitting in with the boisterous atmosphere, Cantlay proved to be the voice of reason for his Atlanta Drive GC team during their TGL match against Rickie Fowler and the New York Golf Club.
With Cantlay’s guidance, the Atlanta team secured a dominant 4-0 shutout victory, marking the first shutout match in TGL history. Despite NYGC’s struggles following their previous loss, Atlanta capitalized on their opponents’ mistakes to take an early lead and maintain control throughout the night.
Justin Thomas, Cantlay’s teammate, showcased his skills in the singles matches, ultimately contributing to Atlanta’s impressive win. While the evening may not have been as exhilarating as previous TGL events, the Atlanta team demonstrated their ability to handle business efficiently.
Looking ahead, Tiger Woods is set to lead the Atlanta team in their next match, building on their strong start to the season. Cantlay, who initially appeared out of place in the vibrant TGL environment, eventually embraced the energy by the end of the night, showcasing his team spirit alongside his teammates.
“I knew JT would do it with me,” remarked Billy Horschel, as he encouraged Cantlay to join in the celebratory dance. “Whether I could get PC to put it on…he’s a team player. He always is and he always will be.”
The Atlanta team’s chemistry and Cantlay’s adaptability ultimately proved to be key factors in their successful outing, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead in the TGL competition.
