Bo Nickal’s coach puts first UFC loss in perspective

The recent defeat at UFC on ESPN 67 hit Bo Nickal hard, but his coach remains optimistic.

Nickal faced his first professional loss in a brutal manner this past weekend at Wells Fargo Arena, succumbing to devastating body knees from Reinier de Ridder, leading to a second-round TKO. This served as a wake-up call for the former NCAA wrestling champion, who aimed to redeem himself after a lackluster win over Paul Craig.

Despite being a favorite to win against de Ridder, Nickal fell short, prompting American Top Team head coach Mike Brown to acknowledge the necessity of the outcome due to Nickal’s lack of experience.

“I’m confident that this is going to fuel Bo and it will help him direct his focus to another level,” Brown expressed on Instagram. “To all the critics dog piling, remember Bo is nothing more than a man in an arena trying to support himself and his family.”

Prior to the de Ridder fight, Nickal had a successful record of 7-0 (4-0 in the UFC) since his career started in 2022, with six wins by stoppage. His aspirations for a fight with middleweight title challenger Khamzat Chimaev now seem distant following his defeat at UFC on ESPN 67.
