Brad Keselowski has officially signed a contract extension with Team Penske, ensuring that he will continue to drive the No. 2 car for the 2021 season. This announcement comes on the heels of Keselowski’s recent victory at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, marking his third win of the 2020 season.
In a statement released by the team, Keselowski expressed his excitement about remaining with Team Penske, stating, “I have been racing for Team Penske for the vast majority of my NASCAR career and to continue to represent Roger Penske, our partners and his organization is exactly where I want to be. We’ve accomplished a lot of things together over the years, and now my goal is to win the Daytona 500, another championship, and continue to build Team Penske into the best NASCAR team in the garage area.”
Since joining Team Penske in 2010, Keselowski has achieved 32 of his 33 career Cup Series wins with the team, including winning the 2012 Cup Series title in his third season. Team owner Roger Penske praised Keselowski’s talent and leadership, emphasizing the impact he has had on the organization both on and off the track.
With Keselowski now off the free-agent market, the potential 2021 NASCAR free-agent frenzy is likely to be more subdued. Other notable drivers who have re-signed with their teams include Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano, also with Team Penske, as well as Alex Bowman with Hendrick Motorsports.
Remaining Free Agents
As the 2020 season winds down, there are still several key drivers whose contracts are set to expire. Aric Almirola and Clint Bowyer of Stewart-Haas Racing, Erik Jones of Joe Gibbs Racing, and Bubba Wallace of Richard Petty Motorsports are among those who have yet to secure extensions. Additionally, the future of the No. 48 car at Hendrick Motorsports remains uncertain following Jimmie Johnson’s retirement.
One team facing a decision is Chip Ganassi Racing, which brought in Matt Kenseth to replace Kyle Larson earlier this year. However, Kenseth’s performance has been lackluster, raising questions about the team’s plans for the 2021 season.
