After returning to the majors following elbow surgery, Atlanta Braves’ pitcher Spencer Strider finds himself back on the injured list due to a strained right hamstring. The injury occurred while playing catch, with Strider confirming it as a Grade 1 strain. The Braves have not provided a timeline for his return.
Grade 1 strains, while less severe, can still keep a player out of action for a month or more. Strider’s placement on the injured list is retroactive to April 18, and the team has called up right-hander Michael Petersen to take his place on the active roster and pitching staff.
The Braves’ rotation is also missing Reynaldo López, who is recovering from shoulder surgery. Scott Blewett, acquired in a trade with the Orioles, will start in place of Strider.
Strider, 26, showed promise in his only start of the 2025 season so far, allowing two runs on five hits against the Blue Jays. He recorded five strikeouts and one walk in five innings.
Strider’s elbow issues began in 2024, leading to surgery to repair his UCL. Despite a strong performance in the 2022-23 seasons, the Braves are being cautious with his return. His absence is a significant loss for the team, currently struggling with a 9-13 record.
