The Atlanta Braves had an eventful game on Wednesday when second baseman Ozzie Albies hit a foul ball into an unexpected target – his own manager, Brian Snitker, in the dugout. Despite the unfortunate hit to the groin, Snitker seemed to be in good spirits, even managing to crack a smile.
The broadcasters, Brandon Gaudin and C.J. Nitkowski, had a lighthearted response to the incident, joking about the impact on Snitker:
“Ooh, look out. That hit Brian Snitker. He’s OK, but that bounced right into his belly … Oh, no. Not on the belly. Never mind. That’s a different kind of belly.”
“Belt buckle. Hopefully.”
“Does a manager wear a cup?”
After the game, Snitker humorously responded with a “next question” when asked about his well-being, adding, “I told Ozzie I took his best ball.”
Despite the humorous moment, the Braves had a strong performance on the field. Pitcher Chris Sale impressed with six solid innings, while Adam Duvall and Austin Riley provided the necessary runs for a 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants. With a record of 47-37, the Braves are in a good position in the NL wild-card race, trailing the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies by nine games.
