Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich has announced that he will undergo season-ending back surgery. Yelich made the decision after consulting with medical professionals, stating that it is in the best interest of himself and the Brewers to have the surgery with the goal of returning at full strength for next season. The 32-year-old has been dealing with lower back inflammation since July 24 and has been on the injured list. Despite initially hoping to recover through rest and rehabilitation, Yelich ultimately opted for surgery after meeting with a spine specialist.

In a video shared on social media, Yelich explained the difficult decision, acknowledging that surgery was the best remaining option. He expressed disappointment over the situation but remained positive, recognizing that injuries are part of sports and that he will work towards a full recovery.

Yelich was having a strong season, batting .315 with 11 home runs, 42 RBI, and 21 stolen bases. However, his playing time was limited due to the back injury, which had also sidelined him for games earlier in the season. Yelich reassured fans that his long-term career is not in jeopardy and that he is focused on returning stronger next season.

Under contract for several more years, Yelich’s absence will be felt by the Brewers as they navigate the remainder of the season without one of their key players. The team will look to support Yelich in his recovery and eagerly anticipate his return to the field in top form.
