Billy Horschel is on the cusp of a major championship victory like never before. Following a challenging round in inclement weather on Saturday, Horschel will head into Sunday’s final round of the British Open with a one-shot lead at 4-under at Royal Troon in Scotland.
This marks the seventh time that Horschel has led or shared the lead after 54 holes in a tournament. He has converted three of these previous opportunities into victories. The last six major champions have also held at least a share of the lead heading into the final round.
Although Horschel is in a strong position, the race for the Claret Jug is still wide open. He will be paired with Thriston Lawrence, one of six golfers just one stroke behind at 3-under. Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked player, is at 2-under, while Shane Lowry, a consistent contender throughout the week, will start at 1-under.
