Canada head coach Jesse Marsch denies interest in USMNT job, throws jabs at U.S. Soccer

Speculation Surrounds Next USMNT Coach After Firing of Gregg Berhalter

Following the dismissal of USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter due to a disappointing performance at Copa América, there is much anticipation regarding who will take on the role next. However, Canada men’s national team head coach Jesse Marsch has made it clear that he will not be pursuing the position.

During a press conference ahead of Canada’s third-place match against Uruguay, Marsch stated, “I’m not leaving this job. I have no interest in the U.S. job. Unless there’s a big shift in the organization, I don’t think that I’ll ever have interest.”

Marsch, a native of Racine, Wisconsin, emphasized his contentment with coaching for Canada, a position he assumed in May. His reluctance towards U.S. Soccer may have stemmed from a previous coaching search where he was a top candidate but ultimately overlooked in favor of Berhalter.

Despite this history, Marsch has found success with Canada, guiding the team to the knockout round of Copa América and securing victories over Venezuela before falling to Argentina in the semifinals. This achievement surpasses the performance of the USMNT, which exited the tournament in the group stage.

As the U.S. continues its search for a new coach, options like Jürgen Klopp have already declined the opportunity, citing a desire for a break from soccer. Meanwhile, upcoming matches between Canada and Uruguay, as well as the potential North American rivalry clash between Canada and the U.S., add intrigue to the soccer scene.
