Gill recently led the young Indian squad in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, where they bounced back from an initial defeat to clinch victory in the subsequent matches.
Impressing with his leadership skills, Gill emerged as the top-scorer of the tournament, earning praises from former India batting coach Vikram Rathour who likened him to cricketing greats.

What did former India batting coach Vikram Rathour say about Shubman Gill?
Rathour commended Gill’s game awareness and adaptability, qualities he believes are rare in young cricketers. Drawing parallels with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Rathour sees leadership responsibilities bringing out the best in Gill as well.
“I feel captaincy brought the best out of Virat and Rohit and I feel it will do the same for Shubman. Although he is not yet the captain, being in the leadership group will bring the best out of him as well.”
Gill’s father, Lakhwinder Gill, however, has advised his son to stay focused on his batting and not let the pressures of captaincy affect his performance.
