It has been a tough few weeks for the St. Louis Cardinals as they have been missing a crucial member of their starting rotation.
Right-handed pitcher Lance Lynn made a strong showing against the Texas Rangers on July 30, pitching five innings with only one run allowed before landing on the injured list due to right knee inflammation. However, there is hope that he will make a return before the end of the season.
In an interview on Foul Territory, Lynn shared that he is progressing towards his comeback.
“I have a bullpen session scheduled for today to test out my intensity level and see where I stand,” Lynn stated. “Hopefully, this will give us a better idea of when I can rejoin the team.”
This development is a positive sign for the Cardinals, who will soon need to make adjustments to their rotation. While pitchers like Sonny Gray, Erick Fedde, Kyle Gibson, and Andre Pallante have been performing well, Miles Mikolas has been struggling.
Once Lynn is ready to return, the Cardinals may consider placing him back in the rotation and moving Mikolas, who currently holds a 5.30 ERA, to the bullpen.
The 37-year-old Lynn was brought in on a one-year, $10 million deal during the offseason to bolster the pitching staff alongside Gibson and Gray. The team had high hopes for their starters to log more innings, and Lynn has a track record of being a reliable innings-eater.
If he can make a full recovery, Lynn could provide a much-needed boost to the rotation. All eyes will be on his progress as fans eagerly await his return.
