Enzo Maresca is pleased with the progress of his Chelsea team as they secured their first victory on their pre-season tour of the United States with a 3-0 win over Club America.
Maresca faced challenges at the start of his tenure with the club, including a race row involving midfielder Enzo Fernandez and disappointing results against Wrexham and Celtic. However, the recent win, with goals from Nkunku, Madueke, and Guiu, provided some relief.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Maresca stated, “From Wrexham, to Celtic, to today, we continue to improve. This is the most important thing.”
He emphasized the importance of translating training into game performance and highlighted the team’s progress in recent matches.

Fernandez back in the mix
Following Fernandez’s return to the squad and the resolution of the summer break controversy, Maresca confirmed that the situation has been addressed and teammate Fofana has accepted Fernandez’s apology.
Fernandez made an appearance in the second half of the match in Atlanta, with Maresca acknowledging that he is still catching up in terms of physical conditioning.
Maresca noted, “These kinds of games, we also use them like a training session and for Enzo, today was a very good training session.”
