Chelsea are currently in talks to acquire Brentford forward Ivan Toney if the terms of the transfer, including the fee and wages, are deemed acceptable, according to a recent report.
Chelsea’s forward line has been bolstered by the addition of 18-year-old Marc Guiu to support Nicolas Jackson, but manager Enzo Maresca has expressed interest in signing another striker if the opportunity arises.
“I have a lot of admiration for Marc [Guiu]. However, if there’s a chance to bring in a quality number nine who can contribute, we will explore that option. Otherwise, we are content with our current squad,” Maresca stated ahead of the recent weekend.
Ivan Toney has long been linked with a move to Chelsea, as he has not extended his contract with Brentford and is now entering the final year of his deal with the club.
Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia is also interested in Toney, with reports from Sky Sports suggesting that they have made a lucrative offer. While Chelsea may not be able to match this offer financially, a move to Al Ahli could provide Toney with the opportunity to continue playing in the Premier League at this stage of his career.
For any potential transfer to materialize, Chelsea would need to reach an agreement with Brentford, a task that Al Ahli has struggled to accomplish thus far.
Toney has been omitted from Brentford’s squads at the beginning of the 2024/25 season as his future remains uncertain. Following a suspension for betting-related offenses that kept him out for the first half of the previous season, Toney only managed to score four goals in the Premier League. Nonetheless, in the season prior, he showcased his prowess by scoring 20 league goals to help Brentford secure a top-half finish.
In addition to Toney, Chelsea has shown interest in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, whose transfer situation has hit a roadblock and is proving difficult to resolve.
