Conor McGregor, at 36, has set his sights on a career in Irish politics instead of a UFC return.
Following a visit to the White House on St Patrick’s Day to discuss immigration issues in Ireland, McGregor expressed his intention to run for Ireland’s presidency.
Despite previously planning a comeback fight against Michael Chandler, McGregor has now shifted his focus away from fighting.
“My heart is with my country right now,” McGregor stated. “There are important matters at home that I need to address. I believe there is something else for me to pursue, and that’s where my passion lies at the moment.”
McGregor has been vocal about political issues in Ireland and recently announced his presidential candidacy.
In addition, McGregor faced legal troubles in Dublin and has not competed in MMA since 2021.
Chandler, eager for a lucrative fight with McGregor, continues to call him out despite McGregor’s focus on other endeavors.
Chandler is preparing for a fight against Paddy Pimblett and remains hopeful for a future matchup against McGregor.
