UFC CEO Dana White confirms Tom Aspinall’s presence at UFC 309
The upcoming UFC 309 event will feature a heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic, with Tom Aspinall as the backup fighter. White announced this decision after Aspinall expressed his interest in serving as backup for the highly anticipated matchup.
During a recent episode of Contender Series in Las Vegas, White revealed that Aspinall will be next in line for any opportunities that arise after the UFC 309 fight.
White confirmed, “Tom Aspinall is next in line for anything that happens after this fight.”
While Aspinall’s role as backup does not guarantee a shot at the undisputed belt if Jones or Miocic face any setbacks, his dedication to stepping in at short notice has been noted. In a previous instance, Aspinall replaced an injured Jones to fight for the interim title.
Despite uncertainties surrounding Aspinall’s future opportunities, White remains focused on the present, stating, “You’ve got to figure out what’s going to happen in this fight. See how this fight plays out and then we’ll go from there.”
Mark your calendars for UFC 309 on Nov. 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
