Deiveson Figueiredo suffered a knee injury during his main event fight against Cory Sandhagen at UFC Des Moines, with the full extent of the injury to be determined upon his return to Brazil for an MRI.
Despite the setback, Figueiredo remains in good spirits as he awaits further medical evaluation.
There is speculation that Figueiredo may have a strained knee, which would be a preferable outcome compared to a tear that could potentially require surgery.
The injury occurred in the second round of the fight when Sandhagen’s positioning caused Figueiredo significant pain, leading to a tap out.
Figueiredo was assisted out of the octagon for medical attention following the incident.
After the fight, Figueiredo expressed gratitude for the support and vowed to come back stronger.
This marks Figueiredo’s second consecutive loss, following a defeat to Petr Yan in November.
Prior to these losses, Figueiredo had a successful run in the bantamweight division with wins over top contenders.
Figueiredo is expected to undergo further evaluation upon his return to Brazil to determine the extent of his injuries.
