Clayton Kershaw took to Instagram on Thursday to announce that he recently underwent surgeries on his foot and knee and is aiming to make a comeback next season after completing his rehabilitation.
The veteran pitcher, who is currently a free agent after turning down his option with the Los Angeles Dodgers, required surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee and address issues with a bone spur, arthritis, and a ruptured plantar plate in his foot.
“Had surgery yesterday on my foot and knee! Thank you Dr. ElAttrache and Dr. Jung for taking care of me! Planning to work hard during rehab and be back in top shape next year.”
“Appreciate all the love and support! Let’s go, World Series champs!”
Despite missing the 2024 postseason due to injury, Kershaw joined the Dodgers in their World Series victory and celebrated with the team in Los Angeles. While he is open to signing with any MLB team, the 36-year-old has expressed his desire to remain a lifelong Dodger.
“I’m not sure how free agency will unfold,” Kershaw stated. “But I’ll be back, one way or another. I’m determined to return.”
Although the surgeries have been successful, there is no definite timeline for Kershaw’s return to the pitching mound.
Kershaw, a three-time NL Cy Young Award winner, last pitched on August 30 and made only seven starts for the Dodgers in 2024, marking the lowest number of starts in a season throughout his 12-year career.
