Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell experienced a setback in his recovery from inflammation in his throwing shoulder. He was supposed to have a bullpen session on Wednesday, but after feeling discomfort in his shoulder during a catch session on Tuesday, the bullpen session was cancelled.
Manager Dave Roberts shared the news at Wrigley Field before the Dodgers’ game against the Chicago Cubs.
Snell, who has only pitched nine innings for the Dodgers in two starts since signing a five-year, $182 million contract in the offseason, has a 2.00 ERA in those games.
He first felt soreness in his shoulder during a bullpen session, leading to an MRI that showed inflammation. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on April 6.
Despite the setback, Roberts emphasized that the team is prioritizing Snell’s long-term health and is not worried about the current situation. Snell, 32, is a former Cy Young award winner and a valuable addition to the Dodgers’ pitching staff.
The Dodgers made significant upgrades in the offseason, and Snell’s presence is expected to bolster an already strong roster.
