Concerns have been raised in the MMA community about the well-being of UFC legend B.J. Penn, with former UFC heavyweight contender turned podcaster and comedian Brendan Schaub expressing his worries.
Schaub commented on Penn’s mental health following a series of bizarre social media posts. Penn posted a video suggesting he is former NFL star Aaron Hernandez and claimed that CTE is a conspiracy to phase out aging athletes from contact sports. This came after Penn made alarming claims about his family members being murdered and replaced by imposters.
Schaub initially viewed Penn’s posts as attention-seeking behavior but shifted to concern after learning from Jason Miller that it was not a comedic act. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation and expressed a desire for Penn to receive help.
Penn, who retired from professional fighting in 2019, had a tumultuous career marked by legal troubles and controversial incidents. Schaub, who retired from MMA for the sake of his mental health, expressed his support for Penn and urged him to seek assistance.
Despite Penn’s past actions and behavior, Schaub remains a fan and hopes that the MMA icon can find the help he needs.
