English domestic football will see the introduction of semi-automated offside technology for the first time during the FA Cup’s fifth round.
The Football Association announced that this technology will be used in the seven matches held at Premier League venues.
Originally planned for the 2024-25 season, Premier League clubs have moved up the timeline due to increased pressure on officials this season.
The system, known as Semi-Automated Offside Technology, will enhance the speed and efficiency of decision-making processes.
UEFA implemented similar technology in the Champions League in the 2022-2023 season.
Additionally, Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be present for all eight FA Cup fifth-round fixtures, with in-stadium VAR announcements at Championship side Preston.
The matches are scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, 1 March.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham have been eliminated, while Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Aston Villa remain in the competition.
