FanDuel was fined $2,000 and had to pay out over $230,000 in bets after mistakenly accepting 34 wagers on PFL fights that had already taken place a week before.
The incident occurred in 2022 when FanDuel accepted bets on PFL fights that were supposed to air on April 1 but had actually aired on March 25.
The fights were part of a PFL Challengers series that was broadcast on tape delay on Fubo TV.
The New Jersey gambling regulators issued the fine, which FanDuel agreed to pay without making any public statement about the penalty.
According to a letter from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, FanDuel claimed they were not informed by their data-feed providers that the PFL event was pre-recorded and being aired at a later date. As a result, FanDuel created manual betting markets based on information provided by PFL.
“FanDuel admitted that their traders did not verify with PFL that the event had already taken place and was being shown on a tape delay,” wrote New Jersey Deputy Attorney General Gina DeAnnuntis in the letter.
FanDuel disclosed that a total of 26 online bets and eight retail bets were placed on the PFL fights. It was only after International Betting Integrity, a company responsible for monitoring betting activities and identifying suspicious behavior, alerted FanDuel that they learned about the pre-recorded event.
Consequently, FanDuel had to pay out a sum of $231,094 in wagers and the state mandated the company to update its internal controls to prevent such errors in the future.
