Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, acknowledged the fans’ boos during their 5-2 Copa del Rey victory over Celta Vigo. The team had suffered a 5-2 defeat to Barcelona the previous week and almost blew a two-goal lead against Celta before eventually securing the win in extra time.
Despite sections of the crowd expressing their disappointment, Real Madrid managed to turn things around with two late goals, including a stoppage-time penalty from Marcos Alonso. Ancelotti viewed the fans’ reaction as a wake-up call for the team and himself following the defeat to Barcelona.
He stated, “The fans booed to give us a wake-up call and then later because the team started to complicate a game that we were well on the way to winning with 2-0. But then the fans started to push and when the Santiago Bernabeu pushes it’s something very special for us.”
Ancelotti emphasized the need for his players to maintain focus in the final minutes of games, as they conceded two late goals against Celta. He highlighted the importance of avoiding mistakes and maintaining intensity until the final whistle.
Real Madrid will now shift their focus to their upcoming La Liga match against Las Palmas on Sunday afternoon.
