Next summer, there may not be an international men’s football tournament, but FIFA has chosen not to give players a break by expanding the Club World Cup.
Once a fierce competition between the top teams from South America and Europe, the Club World Cup has evolved in various forms since its Intercontinental Cup days, and is now being presented as such in 2024, but its significance has diminished in some parts of the world.
While European clubs no longer consider it a defining trophy, it holds immense importance in other regions of the world.
FIFA has revamped the Club World Cup in a major way to enhance its significance. With the expansion, 32 teams will compete for glory next summer, and the draw for the tournament is on the horizon.
Here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup draw.
FIFA has scheduled the 2025 Club World Cup draw well ahead of the tournament start date on 15 June.
The draw is set for Thursday, 5 December, starting at 13:00 local time (19:00 CET / 18:00 GMT).
The draw for the tournament, which is taking place in the USA, will be held in Miami, one of the host cities for the event next summer and the 2026 World Cup.
You can watch the Club World Cup draw on FIFA.com, FIFA+ and other supporting channels.
All 32 spots for the upcoming Club World Cup have been filled, and the teams will be divided into four pots for the draw.
The 32 teams will be placed in eight groups of four, with teams from each pot being drawn into different groups. The draw will start with Pot 1 teams, followed by Pot 2, and so on until all teams are assigned to groups.
Unlike the Champions League, there will be no knockout round draws. Each team’s path to the final will be determined during Thursday’s draw.
