The shortlist for the 2024 men’s FIFPRO World XI has been revealed, featuring 26 top footballers. The final lineup will be announced next week, showcasing the best players in the world over the past year.
Unlike the Ballon d’Or, which is determined by journalists, the FIFPRO World XI is voted on by professional players. This prestigious award aims to assemble the ultimate starting XI from elite players worldwide.
With input from over 28,000 professional footballers across 70 countries, FIFPRO ensures a diverse selection process. Players nominate the top three goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards from a pool of 250 candidates.
The players with the most votes in each position form the core team, with the next highest outfield player completing the lineup. Notable names like Messi and Ronaldo are among the nominees, despite missing out on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.
Manchester City’s Rodri and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, who had a recent rivalry, are expected to feature in the World XI. The final squad will be announced on December 9.
