Former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz passed away at the age of 37, as announced by the team on Tuesday. Matusz, a former first-round pick, played for the Orioles from 2009 to 2016.
The team described Matusz as “a staple in our clubhouse” and praised his passion for baseball and the Baltimore community.
Matusz, originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2005, made his MLB debut in 2009 with the Orioles. He played a total of 280 games with the team, ending with an overall ERA of 4.92.
After his time with the Orioles, Matusz briefly played for the Chicago Cubs in 2016, culminating in a World Series championship ring when the Cubs won that season.
