Freddie Freeman’s walk-off World Series grand slam baseball was recently auctioned off for a staggering $1.56 million on Saturday night. This made it the third-most expensive game-used baseball ever, according to SCP Auctions.
Freeman’s historic home run in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-3 victory. Despite battling an ankle injury, Freeman delivered a clutch performance that drew comparisons to Kirk Gibson’s iconic walk-off homer in the 1988 World Series.
The ball was initially caught by 10-year-old Zachary Ruderman, who passed it to his father amid a frenzied crowd at Dodger Stadium. “As soon as everyone knew I had the ball, I stood up and handed it to [Zac],” said Nico Ruderman in a statement released by SCP Auctions. “I picked him up and tears were streaming down his face.”
The buyer of the grand slam ball remains undisclosed, adding to the intrigue surrounding this historic piece of baseball memorabilia. Another ball from the same World Series, dropped by the Yankees’ Aaron Judge in Game 5, was also sold at auction for $43,510.
For fans looking to own a piece of the 2024 World Series, game-used dirt is still available for purchase. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to own a piece of baseball history!
