San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb had a memorable time at the 2024 Home Run Derby, although it may have been a bit too memorable. Webb admitted that his performance at the All-Star Game the following day suffered as a result of his late-night activities in Arlington.
Coming in to pitch in the third inning, Webb struggled on the mound, giving up three runs on three hits before finally ending his appearance. While it would have been easy to attribute his difficulties to facing top hitters, Webb revealed that his struggles were compounded by a night of revelry at the Home Run Derby.
Reflecting on the experience, Webb shared, “The highlight was the night before the All-Star Game. I enjoyed watching the Home Run Derby and spending time with fellow players… However, the next day, I woke up with a major hangover. I take full responsibility for that. It was a fun night, but it definitely affected my performance.”
Despite feeling less than optimal, Webb managed to take the mound and complete his inning without any major mishaps. Recalling the moment, he said, “As I ran out to pitch, my only thought was ‘Don’t throw up, don’t throw up, don’t throw up.’ It was a challenging jog.”
Fortunately, Webb’s regular season outings have been more successful. With 30 starts for the Giants leading both leagues, he has maintained a solid 3.46 ERA and recorded 157 strikeouts.
