The first pair of scheduled events by Global Fight League (GFL) has been canceled, according to California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster. The inaugural fight events were supposed to take place on May 24 and May 25 at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
The cancellation was initially reported by Fight Oracle and confirmed by renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani.

GFL founder Darren Owen explained that a financial obligation from a main investor was not met, leading to the events’ cancellation. Owen expressed hope to reschedule the events for June.
GFL had planned 30 fights across the two-day extravaganza, with matchups like Urijah Faber vs. Renan Barao and Anthony Pettis vs. Benson Henderson scheduled for May 24. The May 25 event was set to feature fights such as Tony Ferguson vs. Dillon Danis and Paige VanZant vs. Randi Field.
GFL’s unique team-based format, which includes squads representing various cities, was introduced in January with a roster of UFC veterans.
