French Forward Guerschon Yabusele to Sign with Philadelphia 76ers

Guerschon Yabusele

Following his standout performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, French forward Guerschon Yabusele is set to ink a one-year, $2.1 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Yabusele emerged as France’s second-highest scorer during the Olympics, averaging 14 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting an impressive 52% from the field.

Yabusele’s noteworthy display came in the quarterfinals of the Olympic tournament against Canada, where he scored 22 points to lead France to the semifinals. Elevated to the starting lineup due to the struggles of Rudy Gobert and Evan Fournier, Yabusele shone brightly and continued to excel throughout the tournament.

Having one year remaining on his contract with Real Madrid, Yabusele’s move to the Sixers involves negotiating a buyout of his $2.5 million deal with the European powerhouse. Despite the option to play out his contract with Real Madrid this season, Yabusele’s impressive Olympics performance has prompted him to return to the NBA sooner.

After helping France secure a silver medal, Yabusele expressed his eagerness to make a comeback in the NBA, stating on social media, “Been waiting for a 2nd chance.. I’m ready.”

This will mark Yabusele’s second stint in the NBA after being drafted 16th overall by the Boston Celtics in 2016. Despite limited playing time and subsequent overseas ventures, Yabusele’s growth as a player is evident, especially in his ability to stretch the floor to the 3-point line.

For the Sixers, signing Yabusele on a minimum deal presents a low-risk opportunity to bolster their roster. If Yabusele can replicate his Olympic form, he could prove to be a valuable asset off the bench for a team eyeing championship success. Should he face challenges, the one-year deal allows the Sixers flexibility to reassess their options.

Overall, Yabusele’s impending return to the NBA signifies a new chapter in his career, where he aims to carve out a more impactful role on the court. With his experience and refined skills, Yabusele is poised to make a meaningful contribution to the Philadelphia 76ers in the upcoming season.
