In a thrilling overtime showdown, Pelle Larsson’s floater secured a 120–118 victory for the Miami Heat over the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Summer League championship. The Heat clinched the win by outscoring the Grizzlies 7–5 in the extra period, as per Summer League rules.
Josh Christopher shined for the Heat, leading the team with 24 points and sinking six 3-pointers. His standout performance earned him the title of Summer League MVP, averaging 19.3 points throughout Miami’s flawless 6–0 campaign. Alondes Williams and Kel’el Ware contributed 20 points each, with Cole Swider adding 19 points and Larsson finishing with 16.
Prior to the championship game, Ware was honored with a spot on the All-Summer League first team for his impressive average of 18 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Christopher, a former Utah Jazz G League player, is vying for a spot on the Heat’s roster. The 2021 first-round draft pick (No. 24 overall) played two seasons with the Houston Rockets before joining Miami.
On the Grizzlies’ side, Jake LaRavia led with 32 points and six rebounds, while Scotty Pippen Jr. continued his stellar performance with 29 points, 11 assists, five rebounds, and four steals. GG Jackson II added 28 points and nine rebounds, contributing to Memphis’s 5–1 record in the Summer League.
Pippen and Jackson were named alongside Ware to the All-Summer League first team, alongside Reed Sheppard of the Rockets and Jordan Miller of the Clippers.
Scotty Pippen Jr.’s standout performance throughout the Summer League, averaging 21.5 points and 8.6 assists per game, suggests he is on track for a regular roster spot. In the semifinals against the Clippers, he showcased a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
23-year-old Pippen, son of Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, is entering his second season with the Grizzlies after starting with the Lakers and transitioning to a two-way contract with Memphis. Last season, he averaged 12.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in 21 games, hitting an impressive 42% of his 3-point attempts.
