The San Francisco Giants executed an unbelievable “Little League home run” during Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers, leaving both the Rangers and spectators in the Bay Area in awe.
Heliot Ramos secured a walk-off victory for the Giants, defeating the Rangers 3-2 at Oracle Park in a thrilling final play. Despite a series of errors, Ramos managed to turn a single into a game-winning “home run.”
During the play, Ramos hit a slow roller back to Rangers closer Luke Jackson, who made a wild throw past first base and into right field after fielding the ball barehanded. Ramos capitalized on the opportunity and advanced to third base. First baseman Jake Burger’s throw to third missed its target, allowing Ramos to sprint home safely.
The unexpected turn of events sparked a jubilant celebration at the stadium, with Ramos being drenched in Gatorade behind home plate as he processed his incredible feat.
“Tell me you’ve seen that one before!” exclaimed NBC Sports Bay Area announcer Duane Kuiper.
“Well, not since my oldest son was 10 years old,” replied analyst Mike Krukow.
Ramos, who recorded his second hit of the day, boasts a .234 batting average with 10 RBIs and three home runs in the current season, his fourth with the Giants. The victory improved the Giants’ record to 19-10, marking back-to-back wins against the Rangers following an initial series-opening loss on Friday.
Although Ramos’ hit initially seemed insufficient to secure the win, as he was the first batter of the inning and the ball did not clear the mound, the Rangers’ defensive mishaps proved costly. The defeat is likely to linger for the Rangers for some time.
