The Houston Dash of the NWSL have made the decision to part ways with head coach Fran Alonso, just months after his appointment. The team currently sits at the bottom of the NWSL standings with only four wins in 22 games.
Alonso had been on a leave of absence since June, citing health reasons. Assistant coach Ricky Clarke has been serving as interim head coach in his absence. The team is now in search of a new general manager who will be responsible for appointing the next head coach.
“The Houston Dash and head coach Fran Alonso have agreed to part ways in lieu of a return from his leave of absence. We thank Frank for his contributions to the team and wish him well in his future endeavors.
“Ricky Clarke will continue to lead the team and will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
“The organization plans to announce a new general manager whose role will include the selection of the next head coach.”
It has been a turbulent season for the Dash off the field, with changes in coaching staff and management. Alonso, who previously managed Celtic F.C. Women, leaves behind a legacy of success in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
