The Houston Texans Training Camp is off to an explosive start as they make significant roster moves. With the addition of new players and the departure of some rookies, the competition at camp is heating up. This season promises to showcase the best roster the Houston Texans have ever assembled.

As we begin the second week of camp, let’s recap all the latest news and notes from Training Camp and provide some analysis on each development. Consider this your Monday morning update on everything happening with the team in the past week.

  • Last minute addition! The Texans signed RB Cam Akers, who is recovering from a second Achilles injury. He will compete for a roster spot against rookie Jawhar Jordan and Dare Ogunbowale.
  • Second-round OT Blake Fisher is taking starting reps at left tackle in the absence of Laremy Tunsil. Tunsil is expected to return for the preseason, but Fisher is gaining valuable experience in the meantime.
  • Seventh-round pick LaDarius Henderson was waived due to a non-football foot injury. He may have a chance to rejoin the team next year without much competition.
  • Second-round pick CB Kamari Lassiter is primarily playing outside corner in practice, filling a vital role for the team.
  • Steven Sims and Desmond King II are the starting duo for kickoff returns, with Dameon Pierce and Robert Wood as backup options.
  • DE Will Anderson Jr. has reportedly gained 15 pounds in the offseason, enhancing his strength and performance on the field.
  • Teagan Quitoriano has shown improvement and is practicing with the first string, potentially reshuffling the tight end position.
  • Jalen Pitre is now taking snaps at nickel/slot CB, a position that may suit his skills better.
  • Newly added WR Stefon Diggs is mentoring Tank Dell and Nico Collins, sharing valuable knowledge and experience.
  • DT Pheldarius Payne was waived due to injury, and DE Malik Fisher was signed as a replacement.
  • Azeez Al-Shaair has assumed a starting role at linebacker, bringing leadership and experience to the team.
  • WR Quintez Cephus has been signed after being reinstated following a suspension, adding depth to the receiving corps.
  • John Metchie III has impressed in training camp, showcasing his agility and speed.

  • Bobby Slowik praised Dameon Pierce for his hard work and dedication, noting the positive results.
  • Jake Hansen has been starting at linebacker in the absence of Christian Harris, proving his value to the team.
  • The Texans narrowly missed out on acquiring Arik Armstead from the 49ers, as he was placed on the Physically Unable to Play list by the Jaguars.
  • Jaxon Janke was cut due to injury, while his brother Jadon remains with the team.
