If these Ja’Marr Chase contract demands are true, then the Bengals should easily get a deal done

As the Cincinnati Bengals gear up for their final preseason game, the absence of Ja’Marr Chase has been notable this summer.

Despite his lack of participation in preseason games and practices, Chase has been present at team practices and even traveled with the squad to Chicago.

Speculation is rife that behind-the-scenes negotiations are underway between Chase and the Bengals for a lucrative long-term contract extension.

A recent report by Local 12’s Richard Skinner revealed some staggering contract figures being discussed within the Bengals organization.

.@Local12Skinny tells us on @ESPN1530 that Ja’Marr Chase and his camp are seeking a 4-year deal in the $160 million range, with around $120 million guaranteed from the #Bengals. Vikings WR Justin Jefferson secured $110 million guaranteed in his extension.

If this deal materializes, it would mark the largest wide receiver contract in football history, eclipsing the current record held by Justin Jefferson of the Vikings.

AtoZ Sports writer John Sheeran delves into Chase’s current contract status on his rookie deal and explores the potential financial implications of the reported extension.

“The reported figures by Skinner would be an addition to Chase’s existing contract. With his current cash earnings projected at $26,678,679 over the next two years and factoring in the prorated signing bonus, the total cap commitment for both years stands at $31,622,250,” Sheeran explained.

“The total cap commitment for the Bengals over six years would be $191,622,250, with Chase earning $186,678,679 in real cash value. Despite the potential $40 million annual increment, the actual average annual value (AAV) would be $31,113,113.”

This reported figure falls below Justin Jefferson’s current AAV of $31,948,600.

Securing this deal before the upcoming season would ensure Chase’s presence in Cincinnati for at least six more seasons, providing the Bengals ample time to fulfill the four-year extension.

For skeptics of the high contract numbers, Joe Goodberry offers a compelling argument that resonates with fans.

Would another team willingly pay that contract in free agency?

Then that’s his value.

Which simplifies the discussion – he’s valuable, and we want him in a Bengals jersey.

Simple.

In conclusion, sealing the deal and securing the long-term future of Burrow and Chase together should be a top priority.
