Insider claims ‘would be a surprise’ if Braves don’t keep All-Star slugger

Could the Atlanta Braves retain some of their top talent this offseason?

The Braves face a decision regarding their superstar slugger, Marcell Ozuna. With a team option for the 2025 season, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand believes Atlanta will exercise it.

“Marcell Ozuna, designated hitter for the Braves,” Feinsand stated. “Remaining contract: 1 year, $16 million ($1 million buyout). Ozuna is nearing the end of his four-year, $65 million deal signed in February 2021. Given his impact on Atlanta’s offense this season, it’s likely the Braves will keep the slugger.”

Ozuna has exceeded expectations this year, contributing significantly to the Braves’ success despite injuries. His presence in the lineup has been crucial.

The three-time All-Star has been among the best players in the league, boasting a .308/.380/.591 slash line with 37 home runs and 94 RBIs. He is currently in contention for a Triple Crown in the National League, leading in batting average and RBIs.

Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers leads the National League with 39 home runs. If Ozuna can catch up in home runs while maintaining his lead in RBIs and batting average, he could be a strong contender for the Most Valuable Player Award.

Retaining Ozuna in Atlanta seems like a straightforward decision.
