Andy Murray is undoubtedly one of the UK’s most accomplished and competitive sports personalities. The Scottish tennis star has achieved the remarkable feat of winning three major titles, a noteworthy accomplishment considering the dominance of ‘The Big Three’ during his era – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

With a career tally of 46 ATP Tour titles, including 14 Masters 1000 events, Murray holds the distinction of being the first player to secure back-to-back singles gold medals at the Olympic Games in London 2012 and Rio 2016.

Despite his impressive achievements, Murray’s career has been plagued by injury setbacks, leading to speculation that 2024 may mark his final year on the professional circuit. The question remains, will we witness his presence at Wimbledon?

Is Andy Murray playing Wimbledon 2024?

Andy Murray initially entered the Wimbledon 2024 draw and was slated to compete in the first round on Tuesday, July 2, against Tomas Machac from Czechia.

However, on the same day, it was announced that the two-time Wimbledon champion would not participate in this year’s singles draw. This decision followed Murray’s recent back surgery, prompting him to delay his Wimbledon participation until the last minute in hopes of a full recovery.

A statement from Murray’s team, as conveyed by Wimbledon’s official account, stated: “Andy has made the tough call not to play singles this year. However, he has confirmed his intent to compete in doubles with Jamie [Murray] and is looking forward to his final Wimbledon appearance.”

Will Andy Murray retire this year?

Speculation has been rife that 2024 could mark the conclusion of Murray’s professional career. Following his withdrawal from the Queen’s Club Championships due to back surgery, Murray’s ongoing hip problems have raised doubts about his fitness for Wimbledon.

In a press conference before the tournament, Murray hinted that this Wimbledon appearance might be his last, stating, “I would love the opportunity to play here one more time.” Acknowledging the nearing end of his career, Murray expressed his desire to seize the chance to compete at Wimbledon once more.
