Jake Paul and Matchroom Boxing have put an end to their legal battle by reaching a settlement agreement and requesting a dismissal of their dueling lawsuits in a federal court in New York.
Attorneys for both parties filed paperwork with the United States District Court, Southern District of New York on Monday, requesting a dismissal after notifying the court of their settlement agreement.
According to the filing on Monday:
“It is hereby stipulated and agreed, by the undersigned counsel of record for the parties herein, pursuant to Rule 41(a)(1)(ii) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, that the above-captioned action is dismissed with prejudice and without costs or fees to either party.”
In a separate filing on March 18, attorneys for Paul and Matchroom Boxing, led by Eddie Hearn, along with judge Glenn Feldman, informed the court of the settlement agreement and their intention to file for a dismissal.
“Plaintiffs Matchroom Boxing Limited (“Matchroom”) and Edward John Hearn (“Hearn”), Plaintiff-Intervenor Glenn Feldman (“Feldman”) (collectively the “Plaintiffs”), and Defendant Jake Paul (“Paul”) (collectively referred to herein as the “Parties”) jointly submit this letter to notify the Court that the Parties have entered into a Settlement Agreement. Pursuant to the terms thereof, the Parties expect to file a Stipulation of Dismissal on or before March 31, 2025.”
The legal dispute stemmed from comments and accusations made by Paul following controversial decisions in boxing matches involving Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano, Oleksandr Usyk, and Anthony Joshua in 2022.
Matchroom Boxing initially filed a lawsuit alleging that Paul had made defamatory statements suggesting that the organization had bribed judge Glenn Feldman to influence the outcomes of the fights.
During an interview, Paul insinuated that Feldman was being paid by Matchroom Boxing, leading to the lawsuit filed against him. Feldman later joined the lawsuit as a co-plaintiff.
Despite the legal battle, Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and Matchroom Boxing collaborated on promoting a rematch between Taylor and Serrano last November, with a third fight scheduled for July 11 at Madison Square Garden.
A settlement conference was initially set for December after Paul’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit was denied by Judge Paul Gardephe in September, prompting a pre-trial conference to be scheduled.
The terms of the settlement agreement were not disclosed, but all parties seem content with the resolution as they filed for a dismissal with the courts.
