Kelvin Gastelum Makes Return to Middleweight Division
Sources have confirmed that the UFC is eyeing a middleweight showdown between Kelvin Gastelum and Joe Pyfer for the upcoming event in Mexico City on March 29. This exciting matchup was first reported by MMA Mania.
Gastelum recently moved back to the middleweight division after a stint at welterweight, where he suffered a tough submission loss to Sean Brady at UFC Austin in December 2023. Despite initial plans to face Daniel Rodriguez in the welterweight division at UFC Saudi Arabia, Gastelum’s weight cutting issues forced the fight to be changed to a 185-pound matchup, which he ultimately won by unanimous decision.
On the other hand, Joe Pyfer is gearing up for his sixth UFC appearance following a mixed 2024 campaign in the octagon. Despite a loss to Jack Hermansson at UFC Vegas 86, Pyfer bounced back with an impressive first-round knockout victory over Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC 303 in June.
