After helping the Los Angeles Dodgers secure a win against the San Diego Padres in the NLDS, utility man Kiké Hernández was in high spirits. However, his exuberance landed him in hot water when he dropped an F-bomb during a live interview.
Over two months later, Hernández admitted that his profanity on live television resulted in a fine and almost a suspension. During a postgame interview with Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, Hernández candidly stated, “The fact that we don’t give a f***,” while grinning mischievously.
Interestingly, the uncensored video of his remark is still accessible on Fox Sports’ MLB account.
Speaking on LeBron James’ talk show, “The Shop,” Hernández disclosed that the league was displeased with his language. Despite facing a potential suspension that could have sidelined him for Game 1 of the NLCS, he managed to avoid it with the help of his agent at Wasserman and representatives from the MLB Players Association. Nevertheless, he received a fine and delivered a somewhat half-hearted apology.
When reflecting on the incident, Hernández shared, “I did get fined for that. I was going to get an even heftier fine and I was going to get a game suspension, but having a good agent and having a good player union came in handy. They got rid of the suspension and they got to lower the fine a little bit, which was good. I did have to apologize, which you could say 50/50 on the honesty part of it.”
Despite the controversy, Hernández’s availability for Game 1 of the NLCS proved beneficial for the Dodgers, as he contributed significantly to their 9-0 victory. Ultimately, the Dodgers went on to clinch the World Series title.
Known for his defensive versatility, Hernández played a key role in the team’s postseason success with an impressive .294/.357/.451 performance at the plate. Now a free agent, there is speculation that he may return to the Dodgers amidst a busy offseason.
