New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson has been crowned the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year, becoming the third recipient of the prestigious award. The honor, which comes with the Jerry West trophy, was first claimed by De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings in the inaugural 2022-23 season, followed by Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors in 2024.
Brunson now joins the elite ranks as the third point guard to earn this accolade in the award’s three-year history. After consistently ranking in the top five in previous seasons, he clinched the title this year with an impressive 70 out of 100 first-place votes. The other finalists for the award were Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić and Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards, who secured second and third place, respectively.
What sets Jalen Brunson apart as a ‘clutch’ player?
The NBA defines a clutch player as someone who excels when the game is on the line, particularly during the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the score is within five points.

While Edwards narrowly edged out Brunson in total clutch points, the latter showcased his efficiency by achieving his total in fewer clutch minutes and with a higher points-per-minute ratio. Brunson’s shooting prowess in clutch situations, with a 51.5% field goal percentage, outshined his competitors, including Jokić and Edwards.
